Seat Your Family is a free wedding seating chart maker built around one belief: arranging your reception should feel like solving a friendly puzzle, not wrestling a spreadsheet at midnight.

Why we built it

The seating chart is the wedding task couples dread most. It arrives late in planning, when energy is low, and it touches every relationship you have — families, friends, exes, plus-ones you've never met. Most people end up dragging names around a spreadsheet or printing a grid and shuffling sticky notes, with no sense of whether the layout actually fits the room.

We wanted something better: a tool where you enter your real venue size, drop tables that stay drawn to scale, and type each guest straight into a chair — so the chart on your screen is the chart that works on the day. No login wall, no watermark, no "upgrade to export." Just open it and start.

What makes the planner different

• Drawn to scale. You enter the room's width and depth in feet, and every table and chair stays proportional to your actual venue. A layout that looks balanced on screen is one that fits in reality.
• Chairs that space themselves. Set a table's seat count and the chairs distribute evenly — and cap automatically so you can't cram twelve people onto a five-foot round.
• Round and banquet tables. Round tables ring their chairs; rectangle tables seat banquet-style down the long sides, with optional head and foot seats.
• Your data stays yours. Charts save in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, and there's no account to create.
• One-click PDF. Export a clean, table-by-table guest list to hand to your venue or day-of coordinator.

Our approach to content

Alongside the planner we publish practical, original guides on the parts of seating that trip people up — table sizing, etiquette for tricky family situations, reception floor-plan flow, and the difference between escort cards and place cards. Every guide is written from real planning experience, not spun from other articles. If a guide gives a number (how many fit at a 60-inch round, how much aisle space to leave), it's a number we'd stake the layout on.

How we keep the tool free

The planner is free because the free version shows ads and a few relevant affiliate links for wedding extras. If you'd rather work without them, a one-time $2.99 upgrade removes ads in your browser. We're transparent about all of this on our Privacy & disclosures page, and any affiliate link is disclosed as such.

Who we are

Seat Your Family is an independent project built and maintained by a small team that cares about wedding planning tools being genuinely useful and genuinely free to start.
